Common questions

Does the app work without signal?

Mostly. All the place information, photographs and opening details are stored inside the app and work with no connection at all. The map will show your pins and let you tap them, but the map imagery itself needs a connection to load. On parts of the island where signal drops out, the guide keeps working — the map background may not fill in until you have service again.

What does the busyness indicator mean?

It’s a rough guide to how crowded a place usually is, which you can update yourself by reporting how busy you found it. Your reports are stored on your phone only.

What does “Our pick” mean next to a score?

It’s our own rating of the place, not an average of visitor reviews. The app has no review system and no user ratings — the score reflects our view of how worth visiting somewhere is.

Who took the photographs?

Most were taken by other photographers and are used under Creative Commons licences. Every one is credited, with its licence and a link to the original, under Settings → Photo Credits in the app.

How do I delete what the app has saved?

Settings → Clear Saved Data removes your saved places, trip plan and busyness reports. Deleting the app removes everything too. Nothing is stored anywhere but your phone.

I bought the app and it isn’t working

Try closing it fully and reopening. If that doesn’t help, email us with your phone model and iOS or Android version and we’ll look into it.

Before you set off

Please treat the app as a guide rather than the final word. Tide times, opening hours, parking charges and access can all change, and some of the coastline is genuinely hazardous. Check tide times before walking on any beach with a causeway or cut-off risk, and follow signs and local advice on the ground.
